JOSEPH HABERSHAM CHAPTER
107 Continuous Years of Service to God, Home & Country
NSDAR Joseph Habersham Chapter - Atlanta, Georgia
Charlotte Christian, Chapter Regent

As we celebrated the 107th Anniversary of the founding of the Joseph Habersham Chapter, I was struck with how much the history of our chapter mirrors the growth and history of Atlanta.  From our founding in 1900 with 30 members, our Chapter has worked to achieve the goals of the National Society within the framework of a vibrant and exciting city.  Our early goals reflected a society struggling with the changes a growing city and country were undergoing. Today, we reflect a city and country looking back at its heritage and embracing it.

Joseph Habersham Chapter welcomes visitors who are learning what part their ancestors played in the growth of this country. I invite you to contact us for more information about Society membership.

Did you know...

State Flag controversy is not new in Atlanta.  The Joseph Habersham chapter helped distribute what they thought was "the" authentic state flag starting about 1910.  It was virtually identical to the state flag adopted in 2003, except the blue field extended the full height of the flag and did not include stars.

However, in 1916, some chapter members thought that this flag was too similar to the official flag of the Confederacy (not to be confused with the battle flag) and claimed the only true Georgia state flag consisted of the state coat-of-arms on a blue field.
